Abhyangam

Abhyanga means ‘oil massage’. In Abhyanga, medicated oil is massaged all over the body. Special type of oil massage in which strokes are given according to the diseases for 45 minutes per day for 7 days to 21 days. This treatment is very useful for Rheumatism, especially for Diabeticgangerene (a condition due to lack of blood circulation in the extremities of the body) etc.

Uzhichil

This whole body deep muscle massage with oil is a very relaxing technique. It gives all the benefits of Abhyanga and tones the muscles. Uzhichil regulates the flow of energy within the body and improves circulation.

Njavarakkizhi

Navarakkizhi involves massaging of the body with small linen bags filled with Njavara rice (Shastika), after a liberal application of medicated oils. NavaraKizhi is also of great benefit to those with atrophy of the muscles, arthritis, weakness of the extremities, tremors and fibromyalgia. This treatment will benefit from this treatments anti-aging effects and its ability to prevent disease.

Podikkizhi (Choornasweda)

Podikkizhi is a method of therapeutic sweating. The body is fomented thoroughly with linen bags (kizhis) containing herbal drugs in powdered form. As moderate heat is required to sweat the body, the kizhis have to be warmed up by heating them in a pan smeared with medicated oil. Podikkizhi is good for ailments due to disrupted Vata and Kaphadoshas

Bashpasweda

Bashpasweda (bashpa means steam) is a type of sudation therapy. In this treatment herbal steam is applied evenly to the entire body. Bashpasweda is good treatment for Rheumatism and Obesity.

Kativasthi

In this process specially prepared warm medicated oil is kept over the lower back with herbal paste boundary. This treatment lasts for 45 minutes to 1 hour and it is good for any type of back pain and spinal disorders.

Urovasthi

Warm medicated oil is kept over the chest for 45 minutes. This is an effectivetreatmentfor asthma, other respiratory problems, heart diseases and muscular chest pain.

Upanaham

This is a process by which medicated herbal paste is applied on the affected part of the body. Very useful for various types of inflammatory and spastic conditions.

Udvarthanam (Powder Massage)

This is a special type of Ayurvedic massage done with a special herbal powder in a rhythmic motion (Upward motion). This massage is included in our slimming programme. This treatment is commonly used for Obesity. (Removal of excess fat)

Kaya sekam / Pizhichil

Lukewarm medicated oil is applied on the body of the patient lying on the “Dharapathi”. Oil dipped pieces of cloth are squeezed by hand and the oils rubbed smoothly over the body of the patient by Measures on either side. The medicated oil is pressed out of the cloth uniformly over the body at a defined height and massaged by skillful hands. Fresh medicated oil is used every day and the treatment may last seven or twenty one days. Pizhichil is recommended for diseases caused by a vitiation of the Vata humour- Pakshagliata (Hemiplegia), paralysis and muscle spasms and other degenerative diseases that affect the muscles.

Sirodhara

Sirodhara is the best treatment for diseases of the nervous system and for emotional problems such as chronic depression and anxiety (panic) and boost up nerve system. During this treatment there is a constant flow of herbal preparations on the forehead. Medicated oil, medicated butter milk ,cows milk are allowed to freely flow over the upper part of the fore head continuously for specific periods. This process stimulates the part of the brain known as the pineal gland. Among its other functions, the pineal gland produces serotonin and melatonin. These hormones play an important role in each person’s emotional balance, and melatonin is also known to have an anti-aging quality.

Ilakkizhi (Patrapotalisweda)

Patra /Ila mean leaf. ‘Kizhi’ means “bundle’. ‘llakkizhi’ or Patrapotalisweda is a kind of sudation therapy using herbal leaves. Various Herbal Leaves are chopped and mixed with grated coconut and mustard. Prior to fomentation, oil is applied to the crown. As sudation is the primary aim of fomentation, the kizhis have to be kept at a constant high temperature by warming them every now and then. In rheumatic pains and associated swelling of the joints, fomentation and massage with Ilakkizhi (bundles containing leaves) bring relief.

Thakradhara

This is a powerful relaxation therapy for the head and mind. It’s commonly used for treating Alzheimer’s disease, insomnia, depression, stress related problems, hypertension, insanity, skin disorders, psoriasis, anemia etc. Buttermilk, which has tremendous cooling properties, is used as the main ingredient for the treatment. Thakradhara means the profuse pouring of medicine-rich buttermilk on a person’s forehead. The treatment induces coolness to the brain, relaxes the mind, reduces mental stress and increases memory power. Hence Thakradhara is also considered as a good rejuvenating treatment for the mind and body.

Ksheeradhara

Dhara with medicated milk is called Ksheeradhara. Usually cow’s milk is used. Decoctions of various herbs are added to the milk. Ksheeradhara for the head alone is called Shirodhara or for the whole body except the head is called Sarvangadhara. A SravangaKsheeradhra is usually prescribed for diseases caused by disorders of the Pitta.

Tharpanam Ayurvedic Therapy

This is said to improve eye sight, strengthen the optic nerve and prevent different eye diseases. It is basically an eye-cleansing process and gives a cooling effect to eyes. During tharpanam, the medicated oil is retained over the eye which is bordered with a thick herbal combination that prevents the oil from seeping out of the enclosure. Another therapy associated with tharpanam is pudapakam, which entails similar procedures.

Sirovasti

This is a treatment which gives extraordinary relief from all ailments connected with vata in the head. In this, medicated oil is poured in to a leather cap which is fixed over the head. The patient is made to sit on a chair. Oil is applied on his head, body and mild massage is given .The prepared black gram paste is applied over a bandage cloth and tied it around the head. Leather cap should be kept over the head. The inner part of the leather cap is smeared by black gram paste. Medicated oil is made to lukewarm and poured in to the leather cap. This should be changed repeatedly to maintain the constant temperature. The leather cap and the oil is removed after 45 minutes. Mild massage is given to the neck and the shoulder of the patient after that hot water bath is given to the patient. This treatment is good for facial paralysis, Head ache, Cataract, Earache, Deafness.
